Fresher: resume template for a first job

Tight leading and tinted head rules so a first resume still fills a page honestly.

Fresher is the most compact ATS-first layout in PaperKit. Its line spacing, the gaps between sections and the space between entries are all smaller than on the other single-column templates, and each heading sits on a thick, pale rule in the scheme colour. A first resume usually has less to say, and Fresher lets an internship, two projects, some coursework and a skills list reach the bottom of the page without stretching to get there.

It suits final-year students going into campus placements, graduates applying to IT services firms and graduate programmes, and anyone after an internship. Placement drives and mass-hiring portals both run resumes through software, so Fresher keeps everything in one column of real text. Building it and downloading the PDF is free, with no sign-up.

Pick Fresher if…

  • You have no full-time experience yet, and projects and internships have to carry the page.
  • You would like one full page without padding it out.
  • You are applying for internships, a graduate programme or campus placement.
  • Your college has set a one-page limit.

What a first resume needs from a layout

  • Projects get full entries. Add a Projects section from the section list and each project has a title, a college or organisation, dates and bullets, laid out exactly like a job.
  • The thick tinted rule under each heading separates sections clearly, so even a two-line section looks intended.
  • Round bullets and compact spacing keep coursework and skills close together without crowding them.
  • The editor's ATS checklist helps most at this stage. It flags a summary outside 25 to 70 words, fewer than three bullets with a number in them, and a missing Education or Skills section.

How much fits on one page

A summary, education with your CGPA or percentage, two internships or projects, a skills section and a couple of certifications usually reach the bottom of a Fresher page with a few lines to spare. The layout holds up to about three years of work before it starts to look cramped. Around then it is worth moving to a roomier template.

When to use something else

Once you have real roles to show, the tight spacing works against you and longer bullets start to feel squeezed. Plainline or Ledger keep the parsing safety and give bullets that carry results more room. And if a campus recruiter or a PSU asks for dates under each entry and a declaration at the end, use Bharat.

Fresher works well for these roles

Entry-level roles where a project or an internship is the strongest thing on the page.

Questions about Fresher

What should a fresher put first on this template?
Usually Education, then Projects or Internships, then Skills. If you already have an internship related to the job, move it above Education; sections reorder in the editor with their headings. Hackathons and college club roles fit under Projects or a Volunteering section. Keep the summary to two or three lines naming the role you want and what you bring to it.
Should I write CGPA or percentage on a Fresher resume?
Write the figure your college reports, as it appears on the marksheet, with its scale: 'CGPA 8.2/10' or '78%'. If a job posting sets a cut-off in the other unit, add the converted figure in brackets. For campus drives that screen on school marks, include your Class 10 and 12 results as well.
My college wants a one-page resume. Will Fresher hold everything?
That limit is the case Fresher was tuned for. Its spacing is the tightest among the ATS-safe templates, so it holds more on one page than Plainline or Ledger at the same type size. If you still run over, cut the weakest project before you touch the margins.
