How to write a civil engineer resume

  1. Separate design from execution from project management

    Structural design, site execution and contract or project management are different civil careers. A design engineer works in analysis software and codes; an execution engineer works in sequencing, quality and labour. Say which you are, because a consultancy and a contractor are looking for opposite things.

  2. Give project value, scope and your role on it

    Contract value, built-up area or length, structure type and duration place the project. Then state your role precisely: designed, checked, executed, supervised or coordinated. "Worked on a ₹18 crore flyover approach road" is incomplete until the reader knows which of those you did.

  3. Name the codes you designed or built to

    IS 456 for plain and reinforced concrete, IS 800 for steel, IS 875 for loads, IS 1893 for seismic design, and the relevant IRC codes for roads. Code fluency is the technical core of Indian civil engineering practice and naming the specific codes is a strong and easily verified competence signal.

  4. Quantify quantities, not just activities

    Concrete poured in cubic metres, steel consumed in tonnes, area executed, BOQ value verified and any saving achieved through bar-bending optimisation or mix design. Quantities are the language of construction and they make experience legible at a glance.

  5. Include quality and safety records

    Cube test compliance, non-conformance reports closed, third-party inspection outcomes and safety statistics for the sections you supervised. On a contractor's site these are as much a part of the engineer's performance as progress is.
